Golden Retrievers are prone to many health issues that can be debilitating, painful and very expensive to treat. Reputable breeders will always use health testing and clearances to make sure their dogs are not affected with these diseases and health issues, and so that they are not passing them on to their puppies. These issues range from eye abnormalities that can cause deterioration and blindness, heart issues that can lead to sudden death, and of course hip and elbow dysplasia which can be very limiting and painful. The GRCA has long established a Code of Ethics which clearly outlines all of the health testing and clearance requirements that breeders must complete to be considered ethical and reputable.
